Hans Anderson wrote the Tinderbox around 1830 after hearing it told to him as a child. He said that he wanted his reader to "Feel the presence of the storyteller". This powerful story of magic and romance does tell well and keeps the listeners enthralled to the end. Graham's version explores the young soldier's life before his strange encounter. Graham uses the time before the story begins to show the children a working tinderbox. A warm up activity in more ways than one! This story is particularly suitable for children of Key Stage Two.
